Craftsman Training Opportunities
Bender
offers a shipbuilding craft training program to local residents for entry
level individuals. The goal
is for the employee to become a skilled
craftsman while gainfully employed. As
such, Bender calls its training program -
THE EARN AS YOU LEARN METHOD.
Bender’s
training program is currently in progress and when openings are available
we will advertise locally. The
length of our program is approximately
seven weeks. The course
consists of both academic and hands on training.
We utilize our state of the art computer lab and hands on training
facility to facilitate the students training.
An added feature of our program is that each trainee is assigned a
career path. The Company then
tracks the progress of each employee supplementing the evaluation cycle.
The intent of the tracking program is to advance the employee
monetarily and work towards the goal of gaining 1st Class
status in his/her particular trade.
Currently
we offer the following training programs/trades: Welder, Ship fitter and
Painter/Blaster.
Bender's
goal is to locate local trainee candidates who desire long term employment
opportunities. We believe our
training program is one of the best.
Not only do we offer
hands on training by certified craft instructors but we utilize computer
based training in academics to promote continuous education.
Bender's
training programs offers competitive starting rates. It is our intent to assist
the trainee in becoming a first class craftsman within 12 months.
Lastly,
our training program offers one additional benefit for those employees who
seek additional challenges and career advancement.
We call this next level of advancement the Master Craftsman
Program. This program is available to 1st Class
craftsmen who choose to train in a second craft.
Once the second craft courses are successfully completed the
employee will be reclassified as a Bender Master Craftsman.
Once titled a Master
Craftsman the employee will receive an additional $1.25 per hour increase
in compensation. Once at this
level of training the employee is encouraged to continue with their
training in preparation of being evaluated for a future supervisory role.
One
of our primary goals here at Bender Shipbuilding is to present avenues for
our personnel to grow. We
have found that by providing continuing education opportunities to both
new and long standing employees the Company as a whole benefits.
